Since I posted my take on the Miami mall aliens story, I saw several Instagram posts by astrologer Samuel Reynolds addressing the same story. I think those posts caught a few nuances of the situation I didn’t previously get into, so I will share and comment on them here.
Reynolds associated the allegations of strange beings at Bayside Marketplace in Miami on New Year’s Day with the transiting square between Mercury in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces. I caught that the incident’s chart included a T-square of the Moon in Virgo, Mercury and Mars in Sagittarius, and Neptune in Pisces. However, I can see how narrowing the focus to the Mercury-Neptune square, one component of that larger configuration, is a useful approach.
Due to Mercury’s retrograde, Mercury in Sagittarius squared Neptune in Pisces multiple times in the last several weeks. The exact hits took place on the following dates (Pacific Standard Time): November 27, 2023; December 26, 2023; and January 8, 2024.
Mercury stationed direct at 7:08 pm Pacific/10:08 pm Eastern on January 1, 2024, the same evening that the mall event took place. This was roughly halfway between the last two exact hits of the Mercury-Neptune square, but the orb was still about 3°.
Typically, when there are multiple hits of a transit due to a retrograde, there’s a possibility of issues that were prominent around the first hit being revived at subsequent hits. Looking at my diary for late November 2023, I don’t see anything about extraterrestrials. I do see that I copied down the URLs of several news stories and forum posts regarding an outbreak of pneumonia in children in Beijing and Liaoning, China. At the time, I was worried that this outbreak could grow into something like COVID-19. I hope it’s a good thing that I haven’t heard anything about it since.
As shown above, Reynolds shared a video by someone who claimed to have seen the tall creatures at Bayside Marketplace in Miami. In a subsequent commentary that’s not showing up as a video on Substack for whatever reason (exactly what Mercury square Neptune would do, right?), Reynolds told the story of a paranormal experience he had as a child — point being, sometimes people do have strange encounters that are worth taking seriously, and that gave him some sympathy for those reporting unexplainable happenings at Bayside Marketplace.
My dad had a broad (8° orb) Mercury-Neptune square natally, and it was an ongoing source of emotional upset for him that some people in his life did not believe his stories of miraculous things that had happened to him. One significant incident involved a physical encounter with an angel. Angels happened to be congruent with his established Christian beliefs, which made it easy for him to accept and understand the encounter. That also made it hard for him to tell the difference between his dogma (Mercury in the 9th house) and his mystical experience (Neptune in the 12th house). Disagreement with his dogma was taken as disagreement with his mystical experience, and vice versa.
I never had a problem with the idea of my dad encountering an angel. I also never heard, in all his tellings of the story, that the angel said that anyone needed to believe any specific dogma. I did not feel that developing my own beliefs required me to reject the story of my dad’s personal experience.
Why do I believe that my dad encountered an angel and laugh off the claim of a David Icke reader that her boyfriend turned into a reptilian before her eyes? My Christian upbringing allowed for angels but didn’t address anything like reptilians. However, Reynolds said that his nieces recently asked him about Nephilim, mysterious creatures mentioned in the Bible. They weren’t really talked about when I was growing up, but they’ve been getting some attention on the internet lately.
As Uranus, Chiron, and Neptune have all transited through Pisces over the last two decades, we have been pushed as a collective to grow more inclusive of perspectives that were previously marginalized. A lot of good has come from this effort, but should there be limits anywhere?
Mercury cannot enter pragmatic Capricorn soon enough to end this uncomfortable line of inquiry. Fortunately, that will take place on January 13, 2024.
This week’s New Moon
Reynolds pointed out that this week’s New Moon in Capricorn covers similar ground as the Full Moon in Cancer during January 2020. As shown below, both have the Sun at 20° Capricorn.
I forgot that January 2020 had a Full Moon that was also a Lunar Eclipse. The main thing January 2020 is astrologically remembered for is the Saturn-Pluto conjunction that took place on January 12, 2020. This Saturn-Pluto conjunction has been strongly associated with COVID-19 — on that same day, China shared the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus, according to a World Health Organization statement.
Given how close the January 2020 Lunar Eclipse was to the Saturn-Pluto conjunction, I think it might make sense to look for developments related to COVID-19 surrounding this week’s New Moon in Capricorn.
