The Astrological Chart of Tomorrow's FEMA Alert
One can see why it has captured some imaginations!
Tomorrow, October 4, 2023, at 2:20 pm EDT, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will send a test message to all cell phones, televisions, and radios in the United States to make sure that the emergency alert systems work. I just met with two astrologer friends, and neither of them knew that this was scheduled, so I figured I’d share the news here for anyone else who had not yet heard.
Being astrologers, we of course looked at the chart of the alert using the data from FEMA’s news release. Mercury, the planet of communication, is at 29° Virgo. It’s in a sign it rules, and it’s not retrograde, but anything at 29° of any sign has a certain intensity.
Mercury is also opposite Neptune, which makes sense for the wild rumors that have been circulating about the FEMA alert online. People have speculated that the alert might install malicious software on cell phones, shut down the power grid, and more.
I typically prefer to use Placidus houses, but switching to whole sign houses puts the Mercury-Neptune opposition in the 9th and 3rd houses, emphasizing communication as well as storytelling.
Neptune in Pisces is also the apex of a yod with Venus in Leo and Mars in Libra. Besides that, in the whole sign chart, Jupiter and Uranus are in the playful 5th house. These influences could provide amazingly creative and artistic energy, as well as the ability to really sink into an exciting fantasy. If literary cancel culture were not so out of control, people might be interested in using this energy to write novels instead of making up wild stories about the FEMA alert.
That said, one of the more realistic takes on Reddit pointed out that this alert could cause problems for people in abusive relationships — if you’ve got a secret phone you’re hiding from your abuser, you don’t want it suddenly making a lot of noise.
Fortunately, the FEMA release states, “If a phone is off before the test alert is sent and not turned back on until after the WEA Test expires (approximately 30 minutes), the phone should not get the test message.”
If you don’t want to deal with getting the alert for whatever reason — one of the friends I was talking with mentioned that the noise might be aggravating for people who have sensory issues — it sounds like you could avoid it by having your phone turned off from 2 pm to 3 pm Eastern time, which is 11 am to 12 pm Pacific time.
Otherwise, you can take your chances and see what will happen when your phone receives the alert. My suspicion is that the reality is going to be a lot less exciting than the rumors!
I have been bombarded with DM's from friends that want to "protect me". I am an open minded person but, this is ridiculous! It seems that being delusional and believing in these conspiracy theories is somehow cool and or acceptable..I tend to believe in hard Facts rather than the "the government is out to harm us" way of thinking. We have real world problems to solve. I don't know why these folks make up this stuff and engage in such fear mongering..
