Over the coming week, we’ll shift from the Sun in Libra squaring Pluto to the Sun entering Scorpio — sounds like a time for deep inquiry!

More USA Sibly chart astrocartography
The previous edition of Weekend Entertainment Guide examined the Sibly chart’s astrocartography lines within the United States. However, any given chart has astrocartography lines all the way around the globe.
In the past few years, the United States experienced its Neptune opposition when transiting Neptune in Pisces opposed its natal Neptune in Virgo. Weekend Entertainment Guide 10/11/24 noted many locations in the eastern United States along the Sibly chart’s Neptune conjunct Midheaven line that experienced havoc during this time.
The Sibly chart’s Neptune conjunct Descendant line runs through the Baltic Sea in Europe — very close to where the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines took place in September 2022. Some have wondered whether the United States did it. Wikipedia currently states: “The Swedish and Danish investigations were closed in February 2024 without identifying those responsible, but the German investigation is still ongoing.”
Astrological articles about the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines include Nearly Invisible by
and Reflections on the Jupiter-Neptune Conjunction (Part II) by .Meanwhile, the Sibly chart’s natal Mercury-Pluto opposition was recently hit by the US Pluto return. The Mercury conjunct IC line runs through both Ukraine and Russia, and the Pluto conjunct MC line runs nearby through Russia. The Russo-Ukrainian War was clearly a big part of the US Pluto return. The US Department of Defense provides a detailed timeline of events related to US involvement in the conflict. However, the US Congress never got around to declaring war on Russia.
Further south, the Mercury conjunct IC and Pluto conjunct MC lines also run through the Middle East. Again, the United States has certainly been involved in the current turmoil over there, but the US Congress has not gotten around to declaring war on anyone. This approach makes sense for a Pluto transit, though — Pluto doesn’t necessarily spell things out, but people sense what is going on.
pointed out in the comments on this week’s Full Moon post, “Recall that the latest cycles of violence with Russia/Ukraine and Israel/Gaza were initiated (escalated) under Mars-Pluto hard aspects in February 2022 and October 2023.” February 2022 had Mars conjoining Pluto in Capricorn, and October 2023 had Mars in Libra square Pluto in Capricorn. Given that the US Pluto return was underway at the time, the aspects between transiting Mars and transiting Pluto were also aspects between transiting Mars and the US natal Pluto. This week’s Full Moon on October 17 was a Grand Cross between the Moon in Aries, Mars in Cancer, the Sun in Libra, and Pluto (still pretty close to the US natal Pluto) in Capricorn. It’s understandable that some looked at this and saw the potential for military conflict involving the United States. So far, President Joe Biden put out an announcement yesterday saying that Israeli authorities had killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar — with help from the United States.
A song for Scorpio season: “Ballad of Spring Hill (Spring Hill Disaster)”
This year, the Sun enters Scorpio on October 22. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet of the underworld. Coal mining is an activity that very literally takes place underground.
Songfacts explains that the song “The Ballad of Springhill,” written by Peggy Seeger and Ewan MacColl, was about a real coal mining disaster that took place in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada, on the evening of October 23, 1958. Wikipedia elaborates that the underground seismic event causing surfaces inside the mine to collapse took place at 8:06 pm.
Apt for a chart of an underground event, most of the planets are below the horizon. This includes a Scorpio stellium of the Sun, Neptune, Jupiter, and Mercury. The incident involved the release of toxic gases, which makes sense for the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction. Mercury is part of a broad T-square with Uranus in Leo and Chiron in Aquarius.
Peter, Paul and Mary recorded the song “Ballad of Spring Hill (Spring Hill Disaster)” on their album A Song Will Rise, which was released in May 1965. At that time, Neptune was at 18° Scorpio; its transit of the incident’s natal Uranus/Mercury/Chiron T-square perhaps made way for a successful creative expression regarding the incident.

Thanks for this Eva! As usual you do a great job here of weaving various threads together, including my own tentative speculations, into something easily digested.
