Very interesting. I hadn't known who the Means were, so thank you. Probably irrelevant but Pope Leo became Pope when the Moon was in early Libra and he has a stellium in Virgo. Service, yes, but will he have interest in health?
On the RFK Jr discussion, I wondered what the aspects were in the 70s and 80s when so many of my generation chose a back-to-the earth, alternative health and medicine lifestyle. I think there was a book titled White Death referring to sugar. Now I am embarrassed to say that my late husband and I chose not to vaccinate our two children until they graduated 5th grade in a Spanish immersion school and the parent group sponsored a field trip for them to Costa Rica. I chose home birth with a midwife believing that traditional medicine did too many caesareans and the hospital procedures, and rooms, were out of touch with all things natural. I still believe in the efficacy of homeopathic medicine and herbs. Organic food. Meditation (my husband was a T.M. teacher).
I never thought I'd find anything in common with lunatic RFK Jr, but I am 100% in support of removal of dyes in food and removal of "soft" drinks and candy in school.
All of it makes me curious what planetary configurations were fueling this big wave of alternative medicine, an anti-vaccine mind-set, and whether there is any correspondence with the return of these ideas now.
My recollection is that your children are slightly older than I am, and I think it was more accepted in the 1990s than it is now for even liberal Democrats in Eugene, Oregon, to delay or avoid vaccines for whatever reason. Times change, and that's not always a bad thing, but it can sometimes be worth the trouble to look at what has been gained and what has been lost, especially in the wake of a painful electoral defeat.
I think the Democratic Party of 20 or 30 years ago had room for people like RFK Jr., while the Democratic Party of today apparently does not. This is a great illustration of the dynamic I talked about in my essay "Scenes From a Realignment," which wound up in my book Changing of the Guards — 20 or 30 years ago, the Democratic Party was an alliance between the matriarchy and the puerarchy, but over the past ten years, the compulsively authority-questioning puerarchy contingent, which would include the likes of RFK Jr., shifted over to the Republican side.
Whether or not one likes RFK Jr. on a personal level, is the Democratic Party better off without the votes of people like him? I understand that many people, especially in the Democratic Party of today, see mass vaccination as a moral imperative. Regardless of whether they are right or wrong in seeing it that way, any moral imperative, no matter what the topic, ultimately has to contend with electoral reality. Does enforcing the moral imperative produce enough real-world benefits to justify the costs of enforcement? If it were up to me, I'd rather have a Democrat in the Oval Office keeping the basics nailed down on women's rights and LGBTQ rights — even if getting the votes to achieve that outcome meant backing off on the vaccination stuff to some extent.
My kids were born in 1980 and 1983. Transit Saturn in Virgo in late 70s, early 80s, Jupiter for a while, Uranus entering Sag and Neptune already there. Even then, the anti-vaccine group I'm talking about were in religious minorities and alternative/natural health community minorities. It was by no means mainstream, while in the age of Trump and Covid, huge numbers of anti-vax folks became so due to the political misinformation. One friend of mine who fits the profile of the alternative health group of my era is vax shy. Only under great pressure did she get any vaccinations. She cites one neighbor who shortly after getting her vax had a brain aneuryism to defend why she avoids vaccines. She's educated (a masters in health), a vegetarian, a long-time yoga teacher, a Buddhist, and so forth. Like others I've known, she never updated her beliefs and knowledge from the '70s-'80s by looking up clinical studies.
I don't think RFK Jr. would have been more acceptable to Democrats in the '90s or any era since. The whole myth of autism caused by vaccines is followed by a slim minority. In fact, I remember in the '80s hearing about the false research by that one doctor that set those ideas in stone from there on out. If my kids had autism and I'd vaccinated them, I might have bought in to that.
What I do think is that thanks to the emergence of the internet, citizens can read clinical research studies and we can choose a silo to bolster our beliefs. Maybe the transit of Saturn in Pisces opposing natal Saturns in Virgo is a best explanation for the MAHA phenom. I know I see vaccination as a moral imperative, especially in an over-populated world. Perhaps RFK Jr. will be put on the Saturn in Aries pyre.
My concern is not whether childhood vaccines cause autism. I honestly don't know what causes autism. My concern is whether the heavyhanded approach the Democrats took with the COVID-19 vaccines caused the Democrats to lose the 2024 election -- and whether whatever benefit the Democrats got from that heavyhanded approach to the COVID-19 vaccines was good enough to justify all the downsides of a second Trump term. I would like to see the Democrats start winning elections again because I prefer their handling of abortion/LGBT rights to that of the Republicans. At some point, winning elections is a moral imperative that has to be weighed against some of the other moral imperatives.
Thanks. I understand much better. Personally, I doubt the link between Covid and the results of the election or that handling of Covid was the primary reason. However, I agree there is a giant moral imperative to get the Republicans out of elected office. My reasons include abortion/LGBT rights but many many more reasons. A long list.
Well, after a tough loss, the Democrats have nowhere to go but up. I think they do need to dig deep into the self-reflection, though, even if it requires asking themselves questions they find uncomfortable.
Love it Eva. A MAHA Brouhaha! The high-achieving Means Twins (they should be twins) sound like they should be the high-school nemeses from Sweet Valley High. That's very interesting about her Neptune considering the alleged ties to pharma, and seemingly pushing RFK Jr. into the less offensive nutrition lane, as opposed to taking on the might of the medical industrial complex. Hmm - they do give off 'op' don't they?
Great catch on the Neptune pharma connection. The Sweet Valley High vibe is interesting. It could reflect Libra energy gone wrong. I didn't look too deeply at Calley Means, but he also has Sun early Libra -- Sep. 28, 1985, so he is almost exactly two years older than his sister. Calley Means and Nicole Shanahan are basically astro-twins, as she was born Sep. 26, 1985, so I wonder how having very similar charts resulted in Shanahan being so repelled by Calley Means (as well as his sister).

oh interesting! I need to read the Debbie Lerman article now, am intrigued. (These September Librans tho - they’re always trouble! :P)
Thank you, Eva!
Thanks Eva
